Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at a local assisted living facility. She was born September 29, 1914, to C.B. and Laura Cox Flowers in Trout, Louisiana. Mrs.

Thomas was a member of the Winterfield United Methodist Church and had been a resident of Longview since 1945. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and was a retired chiropractic receptionist. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, C.L. Thomas; greatgrandson, Joshua; and son-inlaw, Buddy Pricer.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her son, Bobby Thomas and wife, Elta; and daughter, Elizabeth Pricer, both of Longview; grandchildren, Glyn and Tami Thomas, Mark and Kelly Thomas, and Dawn and Mike Zagurski; great Tifani and Bob, Katy, Sarah, and Haley; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jack Dalton. Special thanks to care giver, Brenda Dalston and her extended family at Alpine House. Mr. Williams died February 15, 2006, at his residence. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, retired brick mason, and active member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Williams; son, John Paul Williams; daughters, Cathy McNeely and Cindy Goodding.

Jerry Jenkins Services for Jerry Jenkins, 44, of Hallsville, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Jay Valley Baptist Church, 2973 Jay Drive, Longview, with the Rev. Kevin Bright officiating. Burial will be in CrainSmelley Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road. Jerry went home to be with his Lord Sunday, Februlary 19, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Jerry was born December 29, 1961, in Longview. He was an active member of Jay Valley Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. Jerry was a wonderful family man. He adored his children and grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. Jerry coached many, many teams of football, basketball, and baseball.

He touched many young lives. Jerry's children always knew if they had any program or ball game, he would be in the stands or audience supporting them. He loved old trucks and cars and enjoyed going to the "Rod Jerry wrote some of the most wonderful poetry you could ever read. Above all, the Lord was the most important person in his life. Jerry always said that if you put God first, then everything else will fall into the right place.

Helton was born October 22, 1925, in Wheeler, Texas, and he died February 18, 2006, in Daingerfield, Texas. He was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church. He was in the business for 27 years. Mr. Helton was a member of the Dairy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Helton; and mother, Lorena Cunningham Helton. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, LaVerne Ellison Helton; sons and daughters-in-law, Vic and Jenny Helton of DeSoto, and Johny and Debi Helton of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandsons, Scott Helton of DeSoto, and Brian Helton of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughters, Kimberly Helton of Plano, and Rena Helton of Arlington; sister and brother-in-law, Rozena and R.L. Zybach of Briscoe; step mother, Mae Helton of Wheeler; sisterin-law and brother-in-law, Joanne and Dean Skelton of Daingerfield; uncle, Tom Helton of Amarillo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the funeral home. Georgia Ann Slack Graveside services for Georgia Ann Russell Slack, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Spring Branch Cemetery in Springhill, with Pastor Tom Roberson officiating. She passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006.

At her request, cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Born September 19, 1930, in Springhill, she lived in Shreveport, most of her life. She retired from South Central Bell after more than 35 years of service. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Nancy Slack of Longview; four grandchildren, Ellie of Bedford, Paige of New York City, Chrystal of Longview, and Eric of Ruston, one brother, Allen "Bud" Russell of Taylor, Ark; one sister, Alda Wise of Plain Dealing, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Staley, of Denver, was convicted of the death of Robert Read, 35, who was fatally shot after he was taken hostage following the robbery at his Steak and Ale restaurant Oct. 14, 1989. Staley had escaped from a Denver halfway house about a month earlier. "It's not one of these last ditch efforts," lawyer Jack Strickland said Monday. "This guy has since 1991, when he first was sent to death row, been hospitalized now 16 or 17 times for as long as nine months at a stretch because he is inevitably psychotic."
